Solage: Music as a wealth of possibilities:
……All the works in the Codex Chantilly are testimony to a great joy of experimentation in rhythmic individualization, and this also applies to the works of Solage, in which he is no exception. In his compositions, quite unexpectedly and in this form singularly, another peculiarity appears. Most of his pieces are three-part; there are only a few four-part exceptions. However, by the notation and formal construction, it is not clearly recognizable that Solage distinguishes (and wants to distinguish) between a sung voice and two (sometimes three) instrumental lower voices. It is therefore a matter of a recognizable compositional demarcation between ‘vocal’ and ‘instrumental,’ whereby the contratenor acts as a bridging function, like a connecting link. However, this does not pertain to a single procedure but rather encompasses a wide range of potential variations……(from the Introduction by Laurenz Lütteken)
