The Works of Solage (spiral bound) (138 pages)

Spiral bound edition (available soon)

Solage’s œuvre survives almost exclusively in the Chantilly Codex, which is, together with the Modena and Reina codices, the most important surviving source for Ars Subtilior music. Like his contemporary Anthonello de Caserta, Solage wrote in two distinct styles—the complex Ars Subtilior style and a simpler, French, style inspired by the music of the great Guillaume de Machaut. His notorious rondeau Fumeux fume par fumée is the most chromatic composition of its age and indeed for many years to come. His magnificent ballade S’aincy estoit was written in honor of Jean, duc de Berry, patron of many renowned composers of his age.

This edition is the first to collect Solage’s output in a single volume and—as is customary in Olive Music’s editions—presents the music in a modern notation that stays close to the original. Each piece is discussed separately after each score.
